My mother was awarded the Higher Rate Mobility Component of DLA for life back in the 1990's (she was under 65 then).
We are currently trying to get the care component for her as well as her needs have changed.
We have received form DLA434.
Does anyone know how this will affect her benefit type now that she is over 65 (she is 79 now)
We have been told by the DWP to only fill in section 2a (help with personal care) and not to bother with section 2 (help with getting around) as she already has that. But, if she is entitled to the care component, will her benefit stay as DLA (even though she is now over 65) or will it change to AA ?
I ask this as we have just ordered a car on the mobility scheme.
I confess I'm never entirely sure whether, in these circumstances, an award is of the care component of DLA or whether it is AA. But either way, the fact that your mother gets an award for care - whether it's called DLA or AA - will not mean that her mobility component ends.
Though, i should add, as always, that when you notify the DWP of a change of circumstances there is always a possibility that an award can go down rather than up.
Good luck,
Steve
