i have been trying to get aa for my dad. he is 70, suffers from sleep apnoea (uses a cpap machine) heart problems, blood pressure problems and bladder cancer. he has been refused twice but we have now got age concern involved with the appeal. they have written a great letter pointing out all the 'mistakes' made by decision maker - like the fact that they keep mentioning the facts they have from my dads physiotherapist - he does not have one!! the person they actually mean is the consultant oncologist!! they even say that he does not need watching over at night as sleep apnoea is not dangerous. my mom has to wake him regularly to put his mask back on as he may not wake again if he does not wear it. in tests he stopped breathing over 90 times in one hour. anyway hopefully the letter from age concern will do the trick. i will let you know what happens when we hear more.

Hi Sally,

You have been unfortunate - the success rate for AA applications is around 80%, though the older you are the better your chances.

I find it hard to imagine your dad would lose at a tribunal, however.

Good luck,

Steve
