Child benefit stopped 31st August, Universal credit stopped 9th August was created by Jenny Joyce
Hi,
My daughter (who is now 19) child benefit stopped as her course ended on 31st August. However the universal credit stopped for her from last UC date - 15th August (statement runs from 9th-8th). I have queried this with UC and they said they cannot pay partial payments. But as a single parent, it seems really unfair that this happens. If I had earned more that month, they would have changed amount, but not if your dates do not quite marry up.
I know there is possibly not a lot I can do, but wondered if I could challenge it?

Hi Jenny Joyce
Please could you change your Forum user name for internet security reasons. Forum user names could be something such as Sunny or Misty.
With Universal Credit it is the situation on the last day of the Assessment Period that dictates the payment calculation.
It is unusual for a course to end on the 31 August. Could you please confirm this and also your daughter's birth date.

Hi Jenny
Thanks for your reply. In that case you should have received the UC Child Element for your Assessment Period for the 9 July to 8 August. Is this what is missing ?

Hi David,
Thank you for getting back to me so quickly. No it’s the payment from 9th August to the 8th September, they won’t pay as they say they cannot pay partial payments.
Warm regards,
Jenny

Hi Jenny
In that case the DWP are following the UC regs as it is the entitlement on the last day of an Assessment Period that dictates the payment. Sorry for the bad news.
