PIP Mobility if you rarely venture out was created by lucy
If you say that you rarely go out because of too many OCD triggers to cope with, even with a carer, will they refuse the Mobility element on the grounds that if you rarely go out then you do not need anyone to help you and so do not qualify for the benefit?!

Hi Lucy
Claimants can be awarded mobility even if they are housebound.
It's only on the question planning and following a journey that where a claimant never goes out because of overwhelming psychological distress, they cannot be awarded points for 1f, and would be awarded points for 1e. The explanation is on page 81 of the Guide to PIP Claims and Reviews.

Hi Lucy, you will need to say what you experience and what exactly happens when you go out. Descriptor 1e seems the ballpark you are in, but dwp have their own criteria to what overwheming psychological distress is. Your assessor will flesh it out of you to determine if your level meets theirs when ocd triggers affects you if you were to go out. They will need to know what happens. So you need to be clear to present your case with practical examples. Bear in mind 1e attracts 10 points so you will only get the low rate £30 odd quid a week unless you have 'moving about' issues to top your points up. All the best and do read the guides as suggested already to understand what planning is and a journey is in pip terms because that is what that part is only about. By the way, you might satisfy 'mixing with people' in the daily living part if your ocd symptoms affect people interactions rather than going out. It depends on your reasons why and the assessor will drill down to find out and if not prepared you could trip up as this is a tricky part full of assumptions. Take care.
