UC Rent Payments was created by Navigator
Hi,

As UC are now responsible for my monthly rent payments, do I have to inform them that it is going up on the 30 April 2026.

When I Migrated over to UC I provided UC with a copy of my 3 year Tenancy Agreement, 2025 - 2028 so they could take over the Housing Benefit payments from the Local Council.

My tenancy agreement contains a Payment schedule for the 3 years showing the monthly rent and the increase at the end of each year showing the new monthly rent, for that year.

Can I rely on UC to do this without my having to contact them? Or do I need to add a note to my UC Journal, But Im not sure how secure it is, or do I have to phone them, but I struggle with telephone calls, due to my Mild cognitive Impairment, and have a reasonable adjustment for this with UC.

Thank You Navigator

Hi Navigator

You cannot report the new rent before it's start date. If on that date there isn't a To Do for the new rent on your UC account then you will have to go to Report A Change ~ Where You Live ~ Housing Costs.

Let me know how you get on.

Hi David,
On the old Council system, a rent increase had to be notified 1 month in advance, in order for it to be paid on time. If I cannot report a new rent under UC before it starts, then It will be late and wont get paid in time.
So If my new increased rent is due on the 30th April 2026, if I report it then, it will not have been paid into my April's UC payment which is usually paid including rent on the 10th of each month?

Hi Navigator

Yes this is an ongoing issue with other Forum members.... that is rent being paid late to Social Landlords and tenants getting the blame. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do unless you qualify for getting UC paid twice per month.
