DWP Bank surveillance was created by banger
Just been reading about the new powers coming in for the DWP to look at current accounts and savings held. It mentions ESA of which there are two types Income based and Contribution based. The former is means tested but people on this benefit are being transferred over to Universal Credit and the latter are being transferred over to New-Style ESA. The report indicates DWP will be looking at ESA accounts but most of them will have already been transferred to UC so why look at NS ESA which is non means tested? I smell a rat. Am I getting this wrong ?

Have been trying to migrate my daughter from ESA to UC thought it was going well but has progressed to hell, I lost my wife a couple of years ago and suddenly lost my eldest daughter in Aug 2024, I have just one daughter living with me now, she has Fragile X syndrome, I won her ESA at tribunal many years ago. I had a few good messages on the journal but then started to get very nasty ones from a London Job centre. I am 74 years old and have 5 chronic disabilities myself and not very good on computers I don't have a smart phone.
I have given the DWP proof that we are away from 18 th Dec to 15th January 2026 as we cannot bear to stay at home because of memories.
Today a received a letter demanding all my daughters bank statements from 8th 12, 2019 and explantations for every £500 spent this must be received by 8th January 2026 while we are away in Jersey.
They said they have evidence she has hidden capital, she does not and we are honest decent people and have nothing to hide.
I have informed Sir Gavin Williamson MP in Nov but he has received no reply from the DWP as yet. I have again replied as a complaint but this is really getting to me, I have been very unwell of late and had very serious health problems, I have sent the DWP proof of this via the journal, my GP's are very concerned.
My daughter cannot sleep as he's so worried that she might lose me and I'm all she has left, together we are both mentaly in a poor way.
I might just have to give in although I have done 8 tribubunals in the past for my two daughters I can't fight any more. my only worry now is that they are also threatening that money will have to be paid back like that poor man with the amputated leg!
Any good advice would be very welcome but I go away next week!
I hope I've done this right it's taken me 25 minutes to work out how to post this message!

Hi murcott
You have posted correctly.
Involving your MP should help move things along.
If they have evidence your daughter has hidden Capital ask them for proof, if they are not forthcoming, you can make a subject access request.
We woulds advise you to seek specialist advice from your local Welfare Rights Organisation: advicelocal.uk where they can take all your circumstances into consideration when giving you advice.
