Claimant commitmants New Style esa was created by tillyboo
Back in July when I finally migrated from ESA to UC which was a nightmare, took my MP, 2 support workers & a DWP home visit. I then recieved a letter in July saying I had moved to New Style ESA due to part cont based ESA which I didnt even knew I was recieving. The letter said I would get a call to make an appointment re claimant commitmant ( even though already done on UC) I contacted both support workers who said probably sent in error, as I was being paid every 2 weeks ESA & once per UC which deducted the ESA. That was all back in July.

This morn out the blue I had a call from the job centre to book a call in re claimant commitment for New Style ESA which I've been recieving since the migration in July.

So on 28th Oct I'm having a call for this, I have contacted both my support workers who I've yet to hear from.

What exactly will this conversation involve, does anyone know?
All the woman from job centre said was dont worry it wont affect your payment. I said to her need to know what will be asked on this call, as I dont remember things, I'm deaf & just want to be prepared. Her reply was name DOB & NI no. I asked how long call would take she said 20 to 30 mins. So I know it'll be more than those simple questions.

I have so much going on with my health, husbands cancer, PIP review now this from out of the blue.

I just need to know what to expect with this call. As the last call I had re UC I was told, not to worry etc & took months of stress to get it all sorted.

Any advice appreciated.

Hi tillyboo

Claimants who are in receipt of CB ESA when they transition over to UC have to undergo two claimant commitments one for UC and the other for NS ESA, I have no idea as to why these claimants have to undergo two claimant commitments.

The conditions for claiming Universal Credit are set out in a "claimant commitment" that most people will have to accept at the beginning of their claim. If you are part of a couple, you will each have a separate claimant commitment that may be different from each other's.

People who may not need to accept a commitment include those who lack capacity, those who have exceptional circumstances  where it would be unreasonable to expect them to agree a commitment (this is decided by the work coach on a case by case basis), or, From 15 February 2022 people with a terminal illness and less than 6 months to live were also excluded, and from 4 April 2023 this was extended to 12 months.

There are 4 conditionality groups:

* Group 1. No work related requirements
* Group 2. Work-focused interview requirement
* Group 3. Work preparation requirement
* Group 4. All work-related requirements

I told het I was in the support group she said she already knew I also said I had been recieving this New Style ESA which is deducted from my UC, which she already knew.

I cant understand why its taken 3 months from reciept of letter to say expect call. TBH when she mentioned the letter sent in July, I honestly couldnt remember, I cant think on the spot that quick.

Both my support workers are busy, so its me alone taking this call. I just need to know what I'll be asked, so I can have it written down.

I just cant see how a 20/30 call will just be 3 questions as per her advice: my name DOB & NI number. So anyone who as had one of these calls, I'd love to know what I'll be asked, as I will be alone & no support worker. I'm worried about questions & what I'll be asked. Do I need all my medical paperwork, docs info etc I'm so anxious & worried & just didnt expect this 3 months after the migration was all done.

Hi tillyboo

We cannot state what questions will be asked as they will vary between each work coach and your condition.

Like you i am now receiving New Style ESA and UC.

Was also extremely worried when i was told i would receive a phone call to accept claimant commitment.

I can only tell you about my personal experience and circumstances.

I duly received the phone call and the advisor was extremely friendly and helpful. There were no medical questions, didn't ask me any intrusive questions etc
Nothing to try and catch me out.

Was extremely straightforward, advisor knew i was in support group and call lasted for no more than 5 minutes.

Hope this helps and good luck.
