ESA Support Group Migration to UC & Message from Job Centre Re: Work activity was created by JK2019
I'm in the ESA Support Group and currently migrating to Universal Credit.
My claim isn't complete yet, but I got a journal message from the Job Centre asking if I’d like a voluntary chat about skills, future options, etc. They said it won’t affect my claim or lead to reassessment and that if I want to know more, I should respond to the journal message.
1. Is it normal to get this kind of message while in the Support Group? Can I just ignore it, instead of replying in journal as I'm long-term ill and not looking into work?
2. I was on ESA with SDP. How long will the transitional protection/extra payment last under UC?

Hi JK2019
Yes you can just ignore it. The DWP believe that some claimants in the Support Group are interested in getting advice about moving into employment.
Your UC Transitional Element will diminish gradually over the next few years when there are changes to the UC payment.

Thanks for the reply. regarding the gradual reduction of the Transitional Element ,is there a set monthly amount they reduce it by? how can I find out what the amount and intervals of the reduction in advance?
Also, when I started my UC migration,I got a some final ESA payments (not the usual 2 weekly amount) after they said my ESA claim had stopped.
I’m also expecting a 2 week housing benefit “extension” they said I’m entitled to. Just wondering, are these “extended” payments on top of what my UC entitlement will be or will they be deducted from my UC when the first payment goes through?

Hi JK2019
The 2 weeks ESA run on and the 2 weeks Housing Benefit run on are not deducted from your UC.
Everybody's Transitional Element is eroded differently. The 2 worse scenarios are getting married or a new partner when it is lost altogether and if employed a significant drop in earnings over 3 months when it is also lost.
Let me know if you need further information.
