Hi David,
My UC statement says standard allowance and then below this transitional protection which is 3 times the amount of my wtc award (This could be partly due to HB which I had just stopped claiming around the time I had to migrate to UC) and half of this is deducted due to my take home pay.
It was confusing for me how my transitional protection had been worked out with the recent pay rise, I thought with £68 more in wages I'd lose £68 in TP but this wasn't the case and I am £30 better off even with a slight reduction from TP.
With a new job with a lower hourly rate, I'd like to keep similar hours so wondered if for example my new wage was £100 less per month, I'd lose £100 from TP or not as much as this?

Hi Kittykatz
We are unable to give you exact figures as we do not have all the facts, we would advise you to seek help from your local Welfare Rights Specialist; you can find your local Welfare Rights Organisation to help you with advice by clicking on the link below and putting in your post code, it will then come up with a MAP with a list of agencies in your area advicelocal.uk
When you apply for UC and work there are two calculations;
The first calculation sets out your applicable amount, this includes; Standard Allowance, Child Element(s), Disabled Child Element, Housing Element, LCW/RA Element, Carer Element there are some others, you add all these up, this is your applicable amount.
The second calculation looks at your earnings and if you are eligible to claim a work allowance, there are two rates high and low, you get the high rate if you do not claim a Housing Element, this rate if eligible is deducted from your net income, if there is no surplus income left you will receive full applicable amount, if there is a surplus income, this amount is multiplied by the Earnings Taper 55%, the out come from the earnings taper is deducted from your applicable amount, this will be the amount of UC that you will receive.
I know it sounds complicated but it is quite an easy calculation once you have done a few thousand, but you do need to have all the facts, including savings.

Hi Gary,
Thanks for your reply.
It makes a little more sense to me how my TP has been worked out.
I have contacted a local advice centre, really this was asking how getting another job will impact my TP. They didn't understand how my TP had been worked out either.
Personally I'd rather have peace of mind and well being in a job and lose a little bit of TP, abundance comes in many forms.
Thanks for your help David and Gary

Hi KittyKatz
You will lose your TP over time as it will erode every year when there is an uplift in benefits to zero.
For claimants getting TP, each year when there is a benefit uplift , TP amount will go down by that figure until it erodes away to zero. When TP is at zero will you see rise in your benefits.
