Migration from legacy esa to UC was created by Tilly
My son has received his invitation to migrate over to UC. Once the form has been submitted how many more payments will be received before the UC starts.

Hi Tilly

Welcome to the forum.

You might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is; www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/guides-for-claimants/faq/forum.

Once you apply for UC and prove your ID, UC will issue a stop notice and ESA will stop, some claimants do receive a 2 week run on with their ESA. You may want to seek help from your local Welfare Rights Specialist; you can find your local Welfare Rights Organisation to help you with advice by clicking on the link below and putting in your post code, it will then come up with a MAP with a list of agencies in your area advicelocal.uk

Your son's existing legacy benefits will continue for two weeks starting from the day his claim for UC is submitted. This should be paid as per his existing two-week schedule.

This means your son will likely have two more payments to come, the second being smaller due to it covering an incomplete fortnight.

If your son's receiving contribution-based ESA, those payments should continue as normal, although the benefit will become New-Style ESA. (Only the income-related part of your son's ESA would stop.)

It will be about five weeks before your son receives his first UC payment. However, it'll cover a whole month starting the day the claim was made (meaning it'll be on top of the last two weeks of legacy benefit).
