Support Group ESA to UC Migration - Incorrectly Asked To Provide Fit Notes

I didn't realise I had to have a Claimant Commitment meeting for Contributions Based New Style ESA or UC. I did read the 59 page guide. I thought because I was in the LCWRA group and out and out of the 4 Conditionality Groups I'm in "No Work Related Committments" I thought my claim would be processed entirely online.
I also informed the UC Migration Helpline prior to claiming I am severely disabled and have complex needs. I was assigned a Complex Case Coach/Manager who never called me.
I've asked UC to put a "Pinned Note" to my claim to make reasonable adjustments due to my disabilities. I've asked them to confirm they've done this - they haven't. However, I've asked them to confirm several things - they haven't. All via my journal.
A friend was in the same situation. They received CB-NSESA and UC to replace their ESA. They had a 10 minute phone call with the jobcentre and that was it done. I've informed them I am unable to attend a jobcentre. My PIP assessment back in 2017 was a home assessment.

Everyone who applies for UC has to sign a claimant commitment, that is the start of your UC , claimants who were in the support group of ESA are placed in the LCWRA group without having to provide a fit note.

Initially JCP staff were asking for a fit note from support group ESA claimants, transitioning over to UC, this has been corrected.

You may want to get your MP involved about the poor service you have received.

I accepted the Claimant Commitment back on July 31st online for UC. They incorrectly asked me for Fit Notes. I complained. They retracted their request. Sorted.

I haven't had my claim formally calculated - it hasn't been 4 weeks yet. An agent at the service centre added a calculation to my journal. To replace my old legacy ESA I'm receiving a mixed award of CB-NSESA and UC.

What concerned me was the post that mentioned "a Claimant Commitment meeting". What is that meeting? I've verified my identity online. Accepted the online Claimant Commitment. Received a calculation from an advisor after 1 week in my journal that seems correct. Apart from waiting for the formal calculation around the 4 weeks mark then being paid around the 5 weeks mark isn't that it?

I didn't realise I needed a "Claimant Commitment meeting"? A friend in my situation had a 20 minute phone call in my friend's words "to explain how it works". That was my friends only "meeting". Then they got paid.

As you have already accepted the online Claimant Commitment, I am not sure what "a Claimant Commitment meeting" is about.

Let us know what this meeting is about as I am stumped.

Hi JM1970 I'm afraid this is coming up for a lot of people at the point of migration, either because their previous ESA included some contribution-based ESA and they weren't aware or because contribution-based ESA entitlement is somehow discovered during the migration process. Don't worry too much about the claimant commitment meeting. If you are in the support group then your claimant commitment should simply involve agreeing to report changes in your circumstances, the same as it did for your UC. You can ask for reasonable adjustments to be made, such as the interview to be over the phone (see page 26 here www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/?dlp=688287e638103). The letters are fairly generic - you should not be asked to provide a fit note, look for work or prepare for work because you are in the support group. The other thing you need to know is that NS-ESA will be paid separately from UC. NS-ESA is paid fortnightly then the monthly equivalent of it is deducted from your monthly UC payments. Citizens Advice Help to Claim would be able to calculate exactly what you can expect in your individual circumstances - see page 46 of the managed migration guide above. Gary

You say you're stumped about the Claimant Commitment meeting. There may be some confusion on my part. You mention the Claimant Commitment meeting here in your previous post.

I've since received 2 letters regarding ESA. The first to explain my Income Related ESA is ending. This is fine as it is being replaced with a mixed award of CB-NSESA and UC.

The second letter about my ESA is more concerning. It says - they will contact me to book an appointment I must attend with a work coach from my local jobcentre. The work coach will explain what I need to do to complete my New Style ESA Claim. They will create an agreement with me called a Claimant Commitment. I must accept this Claimant Commitment.

At the appointment I will be asked;
* To explain how my illnesses/disability affects my ability to work
* Agree to tell them if my circumstances change.

I am in the LCWRA group. I have verified my identity online. I have spoken with a manager who called from UC asking her to make "Reasonable Adjustments" due to the severity of my disability. I have asked in my journal for them to put a 'Pinned Note' to make 'Reasonable Adjustments ' to the process.

Is this Claimant Commitment meeting with a work coach at the jobcentre regarding my New Style ESA standard practice?

I've known people who are in a similar position as you and the meeting was over in less than 10 minutes. It was just a confirmation that if there was any change to their circumstances they understood that they had to report them to the DWP. The people I know did not attend the job centre - because they said they were unable to do so and this was done over the phone.
