Separate phone numbers for joint uc migration was created by Fulci Lives!
Hi there

My partner and I will be migrating over to uc very soon (joint claim).
Does anyone know if we both need separate phone numbers to complete our claim?

Basically, we only have one phone between us and need to know if there’s a way round this or if we’ll have to now buy another phone?

If we do have to buy a new phone, can we just get a cheap, very basic mobile phone (basically just calls and texts)?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Fulci Lives!

You asked this question the other day, and I said I didn't know. I tried googling the answer, and it says you can have one number - but I can't verify that answer is correct, and there is nothing on the government website. I would ring the UC helpline and ask. You shouldn't have to purchase a new phone.

When me and my partner opened our universal credit accounts we had to use different phone numbers I did mine first and when partner tried opening their account with same number as me it got rejected with a message saying "this phone number is linked to another account please use a different number"
