Thank you all - this is such a helpful series of posts which I will be glad to refer to in future. My son has always received standard mobility and we are happy with that, but have had to fight for it since PIP was introduced. At his last review, we had to go as far as appealing the decision, but when speaking to the DWP representative who phoned me and reinstated his award, I mentioned that his father always takes him to work - a familiar journey - as we could never be sure he had arrived unless he did so. Ever since, I've wondered if the DWP might have thought that a tribunal would have awarded enhanced mobility and whether that was why he agreed to reinstate my son's award so quickly. Even having completed your courses, it's really difficult to understand the complicated nuances and the legal aspects of PIP and fit the problems to the descriptors, so it's always helpful to read about other people's experiences.

Thanks again,

Wendy

Thanks LL26 for the correction for the Descriptors 1 and 2.

I'm a little confused by "Remember that 'walking' per descriptor 2 isn't simply a small hike. It will include all the 'couple of steps' you do to and from a car or bus/train."

Does this mean if my steps add up to over the 50 metres in one journey, say from and to taxi and walking in and out of hospital, walking to different clinics etc, that I shouldn't get the 8 points, let alone 12 points, or are they possibly taking into account how it effects me and my fibromyalgia in the following day/s.

I know you can't give a definite answer but a rough one would help me understand this better.

So very true.

Thanks for your reply! Yes, I know what you're saying and have given it a lot of thought over the past 5 years but he really should not be on enhanced mobility.
His mobility is in line with his cognitive ability - he can get to where he needs to go and he would not have the thought or need to go anywhere else if that makes sense?

He can walk from our house to the charity shop he volunteers at, and he can pop into the shop on the way back from the charity shop but he would not have the thought or motivation to go to the shop from home. He likes to keep to known routine.

So - he's actually able to do familiar routes really well, consistently and reliably.

He has been in this same routine for quite a number of years now and he is settled, happy and comfortable within it. He has a pass for free bus travel and has no need for the extra mobility payment.

I'm certainly going to mention his increased confidence on familiar journeys on the renewal form and say that he manages independently and well.
