ESA to UC managed migration -/+ 25 years was created by Parent Carer
Hi. My question is this. If a young adult receives the ESA (income related group/unable to work) to UC managed migration letter from the DWP dated whilst they are 24 years, but the 3 month deadline to complete the online forms falls after their 25th birthday, will the DWP assess their ESA income from the date of the letter, or from the date of an application made after they turn 25 (but still within the time limit)? ESA personal allowance for a person under 25 (as currently for this person) is £71.70 pw, but this will increase to £90.50 pw after age 25 years. That’s a £18.80/week difference — £81.47/month, or ~£1,000/year - which could presumably then be factored into ESA to UC transitional protection. I can't find a definitive answer to this in previous questions to the forum, and I'd much appreciate if anyone can give me an informed view before I progress. Many thanks.

Hi Parent Carer
Welcome to the forum.
You might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is; www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/guides-for-claimants/faq/forum.
I don't think that question has been asked before, UC is different than legacy benefits, when a claimant applies for UC they have an assessment period and then get paid 7 days after the end of the assessment period ie 16/06/25 to 15/07/25 get paid on the 22/07/25
If there are any changes during their assessment period such as becoming 25 years old then the increase should show up in their pay on 22/07/25.
