In my biographical phone call I had to give my full name, address and date of birth. Then I was asked which benefits I was currently claiming and my previous address. After that he asked if I wanted alternative payment arrangements and told me I could apply for an advance. I was told they can’t verify my bank account over the phone so I needed to call in to the Jobcentre reception with my bank card and citizen card whenever I could (no appointment necessary). Both the man I spoke to on the phone and the woman on reception were lovely and they confirmed I have nothing else to do now

Thank you all for your replies. Might I ask, K, why they couldn’t verify your bank account on the phone? I would have a lot of trouble popping in anywhere, let alone the job centre so it’s all a bit of a worry.
Also, is everyone given a month to verify their identity (however that may be)? What if your benefits run out before the month is up?

Hi Delilah
They don't normally verify the bank account in this way.

I have no idea why they can’t verify a bank account over the phone. It makes no sense especially as it’s the same account my ESA went into. I’m not sure what alternative would have been offered.
