ESA change to 'new style' was created by angel*1
I came to the b&w site today to query a similar issue.
I was migrated onto UC in February this year. The only means tested benefit I was receiving was housing benefit, so that is what I applied for. All my other benefits are not means tested, including Contribution Based ESA.
I have just been informed by Universal Credit to check my payment. It was much more than usual. I thought they had made an error. All of the calculations have changed significantly since I first applied a few months ago. It is clear to me that they have shifted me onto a means -tested ESA because that’s what Universal Credit is -everything is means tested.
I want to challenge this as it was not part of my original claim and without telling me, they have completely changed my Universal Credit claim. The deduction section is the entirety of my CB ESA. My transitional protection is reduced.
Can I appeal this?
Thanks.

Hi angel*1
Housing Benefit has been replaced with Universal Credit. You can only get help with your rent through Universal Credit ( unless living in sheltered/supported accomodation )

Yes, I am aware regarding Housing Benefit.
I am querying whether I can challenge them changing my CB ESA to their new style ESA, which is much reduced to my original payment.
I’m also not sure if I get the SDP or the disability guarantee with this new ESA. I have no details at all and I’ve asked for them to send me something in writing.
I’ve tried to get a hold of Citizens advice, but I’ve been unable to get through.
I’ve done the calculations: compared with what I was getting before they changed my ESA to “new” ESA, I am now getting £40 less per month.
Thanks. Any input welcome.

Hi angel*1
Contributions Based ESA and New Style ESA are basically the same thing and pay exactly the same amount. So your reduction won't have anything to do with NS ESA. You need to investigate elsewhere.
