Thanks David. I've sent a detailed message with the context and issue, and the fact that you referred me. I'll come back when there's news.

Hi stayingalive

Thanks for the update. You should get some sort of acknowledgement next week.

They've replied to say they can't help - they do debt rather than benefits. They've suggested I call CAB or look on their website for the chat box.

I've waited on CAB website for the chat to become available on 11 occasions in the last week. It's never available. It doesn't feel like an accessible alternative to phone calls.

I guess this leaves me with trying to fix up a text relay phone call with CAB....

UPDATE

I had an appointment at the CAB July 2025 and submitted an MR request. Didn't hear anything at all. CAB chased up for me again last month to point out it had been nearly 9 months. 10 days later an email/note in my journal with attached letter: DWP had changed their decision and UC awarded.

I'm now getting information together to send them 10 months worth of income and expenditure (my permitted work on SG ESA has become self-employment under UC). I have to send it in by 5 May. They will then pay me arrears of UC - less my earnings - including housing costs.

I have somehow survived the last 10 months on just EESA/DLA and no support with housing costs. My brother paid my arrears directly for me at Christmas to stop the council evicting me. Otherwise I have no idea where I'd be right now. As it is, Council Tax were beginning to make noises about court proceedings...

Such a relief.

Hi stayinalive

I am glad you are at last getting somewhere. I think otherwise it would have been time to make a complaint to your Member of Parliament.
