ESA about to cease due to receipt of New State Pension

I am currently in receipt of ESA (support group) + severe disability premium + enhanced disability premium. I am also in receipt of PIP and Housing Benefit. I recently received a letter informing me that I will be entitled to the New State Pension within the next four months. My entitlement to ESA will then cease. The letter informs me that I will be receiving the full rate of the New State Pension. The full rate of the pension is below the amount I am currently receiving from my entitlement to ESA.

Will I be able to top up my pension to my current rate of ESA? And if so - how?

Thanks

Hi Mikey

I'm afraid your question is outside the remit of this forum. You need to speak to a specialist welfare advisor advicelocal.uk/ I have attached the link to see if you can find one in your area.

You might want to look at the government website about this www.gov.uk/new-state-pension/increase-retirement-income - you may find that you are eligible for Pension Credit.

Hi Mikey,

I am also coming up to reaching state pension age and as I understand it you can apply for guarantee pension credit at the same time as you apply for your pension.
Pip Daily living award should qualify you for this which gives you a premium of about £80 something a week plus the other benefits of being on pension credit which includes qualification for full housing benefit.

I will find out myself if I have got it right when I apply in September, someone on here who has already gone through the process may be able to confirm this for us both!

You can start your application up to 4 months before you reach State Pension age.

I reach state pension age in a few weeks and I applied for my state pension and pension credit online 4 months before my state pension age date.

My state pension claim was decided very quickly within 1 week and I was told the amount I would receive and payments would be 4 weekly which I changed to weekly.

My pension credit claim I have heard nothing about but an agent did tell me that they have a backlog and only look at your claim once you have reached state pension age.

I have also informed my local council about the changes so they can amend my council tax support.

Hope the information is of use.

CBrad.
