RE: Online Verification for UC was created by Kuju2
Hi all,
I submitted my UC claim today. I was unable to verify my ID online, even though I had a passport, P60 and Credit references. The only question it asked me was 'had I opened an online catalogue' I wasn't sure of the answer so pressed I didn't have that info. I am now awaiting a telephone call in the next 2-3 days. I have also asked for reasonable adjustments so my ID and Claimant commitment is agreed over the phone.
The question I have, because I am absolutely shitting myself that my claim will be closed is:
What happens if I am unable to verify my identity over the phone, can I say that I will come into the jobcentre, or does the claim get closed automatically?
Really, really worked up and anxious about this.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi Kuju,
I think the telephone setups were more common during covid times - so they requested things like a photo of you standing outside your front door, holding your passport - to help stop fraud.
I think a lot of this has changed now, and certain job centre's ask people to go in. I was asked back in 2023 to go in, despite me telling them I suffered from social and travel anxiety - and I actually had to get someone who I knew, to take time off their job, to accompany me. I wasn't very happy about it, but it wasn't the work coachs fault, and I was in and out in 5 minutes - so luckily it didn't affect my anxiety too badly, because it wasn't too busy.
I think maybe sending a journal message to mention how you're feeling could possibly help.
Good luck!
Chris.

Hiya Chris thank you so much for replying. I did send a message which reads as follows:
Further to my message earlier about reasonable adjustments. If I need to come in to the Jobcentre to confirm my ID and agree my claimant commitment I will do. I have a passport so I do have photo ID which I would not be able to use if it was done over the telephone. In this instance it would probably be best if I did come into the jobcentre.
However I shall prob message them again and just say that I am very anxious and stressed that my claim will be closed if I am unable to answer the questions over the phone.
I have a to do task which is that they are going to call me in the next 2-3 days.

Hi kuju,
Try not worry about the tasks - I did this initially, and was having chest pains and panic attacks, and my workcoach was lovely, and was happy enough that I'd been walking daily and doing online courses. They do get reviewed yearly usually, but I tell them about my situation with my health, and I've been lucky enough to always get understanding people.
