PIP PARKINSON'S DISEASE was created by Yorry
I have Parkinson's disease and I'm still driving, I have difficulty controlling my arms/hands freely like holding a plate or cup. When it comes to driving and holding the steering wheel I can control the car fine. Holding a fixed solid object like a steering wheel fixed to a steering column stops my arms and hands freely shaking. When I applied for PIP several years ago I was awarded PIP Care Standard but was turned down for the Mobility component. In my letter from the reviewer of my PIP claim the reason for refusing my Mobility component was that if they awarded me PIP Mobility component then they would take my driving licence away. If I contested the Mobility component and was awarded it I couldn't drive anymore. Does anybody know the rules around driving with Parkinson's disease.

Hi Yorry
Your question is outside the remit of this forum. You are legally required to inform the DVLA if you have Parkinson's and drive www.parkinsons.org.uk/information-and-su...M6vjurhoCoB0QAvD_BwE
I think the assessor mis-informed you. The DWP will tell the DVLA if they think someone is too ill to drive - but that is rare. It is up to you to inform DVLA and they will make a decision whether you can continue to drive. I have not see it written anywhere that they will only award the mobility if you don't drive.

Yorry,
I have Parkinsons and I informed the DVLA and they issued me with a 3 year license that needs reviewing every 3 years. They contact your parkinsons consultant and if he/she says you are fit to drive then they will give you a restricted license of 1 year to 3 years.
