Hi dpeplow
I haven't heard about the council tax issue. Councils are busy sending out council tax bills for the new financial year. Perhaps other members will be able to comment.

Hello dpeplow,
I was worried about my managed migration, but it went smoothly in my case.
I migrated online with the help of videos showing what the migration looks like, and I did it after having contacted the Citizens Advice Help to Claim mentioned in my managed migration letter.
I did not contact the council to say I had migrated as soon as I migrated.
As advised on this forum, first I waited for my first Universal Credit assessment ( and made sure it was correct as advised by CAB Help to Claim in a letter they had sent to me).
My first UC statement is listed on my online UC account
and then I contacted the Council Tax department around one week later when I got my first UC payment and told the Council Tax department I had migrated.
I was lucky a nice person told me they were already notified and I would get my council tax reduction which I got but she told me on the phone there were no changes.
Same as before the migration I do not have to pay council tax.
I got another tax reduction letter a few days ago, I assume because we are the beginning of April, and same as before I do not pay council tax.
I would definitely contact the council tax as soon as you got get first UC assessment or payment around a week later, in case they were not notified of your migration.
What I like is that every month you get your universal credit statement.
At the top of it, it shows your assessment period spanning 4 weeks, the amount you are going to get and on what day.
Underneath you have the breakdown of this assessment, housing, children etc.
This is coming handy to me as I am looking at properties as I have to move and prospective letting agents as me for proof of benefits.
Without ringing anyone I know by logging in to my UC account online, once I find an appropriate flat which accepts someone who is disabled and on benefits, I can print off my statement and show it to a letting agent as proof of benefits.
For PIP and child benefit as they are not migrated to universal credit I can get a letter from PIP or CB.
I strongly recommend you the Citizens Advice Bureau Helpline mentioned on your migration letter. One of my post is locked at the top of this forum and is self explanatory.
I hope it is helpful to you.
All the best!

Hello,
I forgot to mention that when you receive the letter from the council, they lay out step by step, all the individual amounts Universal Credit mentions in your UC assessment in order to work out the final amount of council tax to pay or even none at all.

Hi VIA
Thanks for that observation regarding the " individual amounts ".
What you have to be wary of is that some Councils are wrongly putting down Transitional Protection as an " individual amount" and so increasing the Council Tax bill.
Also some Councils are deliberately counting the LCWRA element as income and again increasing Council Tax.

Thank you David,
Your post is very helpful, I will bear it in mind when I move house.
I always wondered how come after migrating to universal credit fellow B&W members mentioned about having to pay council tax when they did not have to prior to the migration, and I was very worried about it happening to me.
I am lucky everything went fine after my migration as I was not asked to pay council tax.
They even mention in their letter they do not take into account the transitional protection amount as income.
But prior to reading your post I was worried that when I move to a new property (still looking) they may charge me some council tax.
I know now to ensure they do not use the transitional protection and LCWRA element as extra income to get one to pay council tax.
Best wishes!
