Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi feelingdownandout
I'm so sorry to hear that you have another blow to deal with. I know you struggle to ask for help - but if the overpayment was not your fault see if you can get some help for you local MP - sometimes they can get the debts wiped.

Dear feelingdownandout, please reach out to your local council to see if they have a benefits help department, or CAB, or a charity connected with the DV you suffered, or even your GP as you mention you are spiralling, to see if someone will write a letter saying you cannot afford this level of deduction. Hopefully they should be able to negotiate to pay it off more slowly. Maybe even they can show some of it was not your fault and get it reduced altogether. But please seek help. We are all rooting for you here.
Best,
Denby

Hi feelingdownandout
The secretary of state has the ability to wipe a debt, and although it doesn't happen very often, it probably occurs more often than anyone is prepared to admit. You have nothing to lose by contacting your MP or asking someone like Citizens' Advice to write on your behalf explaining your situation and asking if there is any possibility that your debt can be cleared.
I'm not trying to give you false hope because I'm sure others have tried and failed, but I personally know a couple of people who were lucky enough to have their debts cleared because it wasn't their fault.

Go for it feelingdownandout, and if you have any success it will help others to know about it. Even if you don't we will commiserate with you. But rescheduling is the very least you should get.
