So I finally received the dreaded migration notice this morning (11/03/25) dated 06/03/25, with a deadline of the 6th of June.

This is, funnily enough, just 20 days before my 60th birthday on the 26th of June.

While it might not make any kind of material difference to how they treat me in terms of commitments and expectations, I'd like to wait until on (or preferably after) my 60th to claim. I also have complex needs (for both mental and physical health) and would need to organise support for the whole process.

Can I get an extension?

If not, what happens if I don't apply by 6th June? Will I lose transitional Protection? Will they contact me again before this deadline? What is the so-called 'Final Deadline'?

One final, somewhat separate question:

I'm having all kinds of 'fun' already with UC, even though I don't claim it yet - someone has apparently falsely used my address to claim UC and UC don't seem to believe they don't live here. This person now owes them over £2000 in 'overpayments'. Despite my repeated phone calls and letters to UC, and even my landlord's intervention, letters to this individual and demands for payment keep coming. I've recently tried to involve my MP but not yet had any response. Is all this going to affect my migration?

Hi wibblum

I cannot answer questions regarding the fraudulent activity against you though it is a good idea to get your MP involved.

Your final UC deadline day would be at the beginning of July so you could safely claim on the day after your birthday on the 27th June and your Transitional Protection would remain intact.
