ESA uprating letter confused about entitlement

I was moved from incapacity benefit in 2013to esa,
I have always believed this was contributory based and makes a huge difference to me as I have a partner who works , , after receiving an uprating letter the other day with no information on . Yesterday i received another one
It says your living expenses 90.50
Limited capability for work addition because you are in the support group 47.70
Which gives a total income related amount of 138.20
Income and benefits
No income will be taken off your employment and support allowance

Your income related amount is 138.20 less 0.00

So you would have been entitled to 138.20

However because you are entitled to contributory based employment and support allowance we will pay you 138.20

It then says until April the 9th then I get the new updated amount

Why does it talk about income related amount if i am contribution based ? Am I actually contribution based ?
This bothers me as I have a partner who works so if it was income related I wouldn’t be allowed income related
Giving me massive anxiety
I also receive pip standard care and high rate mobility and have since 2017 , I don’t get any top ups on my esa
But I don’t like the wording of this letter ,how would any part of this be income related , are these letters just put together strangely
Anyone else similar or can help thanks
Am I contribution based
Thanks in advance

Hi Chrystal

You are receiving £138.20 per week in Contributions Based ESA which is correct.
The autogenerated ESA award letters are notorious for causing confusion. I cannot see there is anything else to worry about.

The "uprating" ESA letters are a confusing mess Chrystal. Quite often only the very first ESA award letter actually states what you get accurately, but then every future uprating letter after that will often be worded differently. Eg, people getting both Income and Contributory components get letters worded as if they get "Income only" despite the fact they are also getting Contributory too. Others (like you) who are getting Contributory only will get similarly confusing letters 'the other way around', trying to subtract the Contributory bit from a zero amount of Income top-up (that's zero precisely because you don't get it...)

Bottom-line - The specific amount you're getting (£138.20) is almost certainly just Contributory (Support Group) only with no income top-up. It's nothing to worry about, the uprating letters are just absurdly misleading.

Replied by Chrystal on topic ESA uprating letter confused about entitlement
Sorry to bang on , so you think I am definitely only getting contribution based esa, what does contribution based with a top up look like of income related. I think it worried me because I was reading contribution based could be topped up with income based and I was like omg are they trying to imply the amount I receive is somehow topped up thanks for your help
