Council tax support gone from 100% to 15% following migration was created by Dee,7496
I've just gone through managed migration from Income Related ESA to New Style ESA & UC, and literally received my first UC payment today. I also received a council tax bill for £244 for the last 5 weeks! My council tax support has gone from 100% to 15% since they class both new style ESA and UC as income, and with transitional protection it places me in the highest earning bracket and therefore I now need to find £120.00 council tax per month, plus the £91 per month rent they are no longer paying. So while my money coming in for NS ESA and UC is roughly similar to what I was getting on IR ESA (with protection), they are clawing back that protection through any means possible, and my home is now in jeopardy if I can't find £211.00 per month. Spoiler alert... I can't! The extra money I receive for being disabled is spent on things I need because I'm disabled. So either my health can suffer or I lose my house. Wow! I'm speechless and I am unbelievably tired of everything right now.
I just wanted to warn people of this. And that apparently managed migration means council tax departments have new rules they are instructed to follow, and therefore you just have to pay it.

  			 				Hi Dee,7496

It is not the " new rules " for everyone just for those in your council area.
Unfortunately you are living in a local authority where it appears they have decided to penalise disabled people by increasing their Council Tax liability. This practice varies from council to council. You need to gather more local information regarding this. Often councils publish the minutes of meetings etc or make statments regarding their Council Tax support schemes.
You may be eligible for a DHP ( discretionary housing payment ).
