UC want to access medical record was created by NY
In the process of a joint migration from ESA to UC, my partner has been asked to supply fit notes (this may be wrong but that's a separate post...). When he reported his first fit note, a message came up asking him to give permission for UC/DWP to access his full medical record. He refused, and then got a message saying that might mean they don't have enough info to assess him. We were quite surprised by the question: of course we don't want to let them see our full private medical records, right?! What kind of problems might result from not allowing this intrusion, and what can we do about it?

It's your partner's right to refuse access to his medical records, and he is not alone in doing so.
One of the reasons they sometimes ask if they can access a claimant's records is they believe that the information they hold is insufficient for them to make a decision. This may be because a claimant hasn't given enough information on a form, hasn't provided backup evidence, has given contradictory evidence, etc.
I'm not suggesting your partner has done any of the things above- I just mention them as possibilities. The message he received is a standard one that they always issue when someone refuses to allow them to access their records.
Will it make a difference? It could do. If they think they haven't enough information - they will make a decision on what they have.
If your partner doesn't want to let them have access to his records, he could ask if there is any information they would like and, if there is, whether it's possible for him to provide that information to them.
