PIP face to face assessment was created by EDCC
Hi, I received a message today with an appointment for a face to face assessment with Maximus, I thought most of the assessments were carried out over the phone and am so worried why, does anyone know if I can call and change it to a telephone appointment? thanks x

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi EDCC
Some claimants are still having a face to face, it would depend where the assessment centre is, if it is miles away then I would phone and ask for a telephone assessment as the centre is too far to travel to.
Quite often it goes against you if you travel miles to an assessment centre and then try and argue you struggle with travelling.

Thank you Gary,
I have had to travel by taxi to be assessed face to face for pip and esa on all previous occasions.
I am always suffering a great deal due to multiple joints with osteoarthritis and nerve pain from stenosis and I never asked for a phone interview instead, despite the assessment centre being far, me being in pain and me always submitting a great deal of evidence I have always had a face to face assessment, even at the review stages.
And it also went against me once, when they said I travelled miles despite me being in a lot of pain and at the assessment centre.
I will bear what you said in mind and in case I were requested to go through a face to face assessment again, and will request a phone interview instead and explain the journey there and back causes me a great deal a pain, and when I get home it affects me for days afterwas where my pain goes through the roof.
Many thanks Gary
Best wishes

Hi VIA
I'm stunned to learn you have always had to travel to an assessment centre. I'm with Gary - absolutely ask for a telephone assessment if you want one. If they refuse - ask a second time. They have to consider it. Be aware that there are disadvantages of phone assessments in that assessors will make judgments about things they can't see - but I think many would argue that the disadvantages outweigh the advantages. At the end of the day - do what feels best for you.
