Mentioning Regulation 19 on journal when applying for Universal Credit was created by Eveshell
Hello. When we've completed our Universal Credit joint claim (migration from ESA), would you recommend mentioning regulation 19 and that we are both on ESA support group with Severe Disability Payment on our Journal as soon as we can write on the journal? We've heard a good few people saying they are in the same situation as us but have been told they must produce fit notes until ESA confirm to UC that we are in support group ect. If we put this on our journal do you think this will stop this complication?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Hi Eveshell,
I think where UC claimants with LCWRA have been asked for Fit Notes it is as a result of poorly trained staff ( usually Work Coaches).
Also UC claimants often route their UC Journal messages to the incorrect staff. So try and avoid sending a message to the Work Coach if the matter could affect your payments. When you have typed your message in the drop down menu choose " payment " so then your message will be routed to the Case Manager who should have had the training in Regulation 19.
So when you have made your new UC claim you could send a message to the Case Manager just to confirm that you are in the ESA Support Group.
If though you are being assisted by the Citzens Advice Help to Claim service you should not have to worry on this account as they will manage your new UC claim.

Thank you David,
Your post is extremely helpful.
“ If though you are being assisted by the Citzens Advice Help to Claim service you should not have to worry on this account as they will manage your new UC claim.”
How can I be assisted with the Citizens Advice Help to Claim Service to avoid the scenario where when transferring from ESA Support group to UC I do not have to provide fit notes.
Can I call CAB Help to Claim Service a little bit at a time for me to do the managed migration online a little bit at a time within 28 days, and call them every time I need help.
But how will UC know I got assisted from CAB to help to avoid fit notes.
Or do I have to claim via phone with UC at one end, CAB on the other end of the phone and me on the other end , which I am not too keen on as I prefer to do the application online and take screenshots as proof as I go on.
How can I get CAB help to claim service, so that they manage my new claim, so that I avoid the possible scenario of UC asking me to provide fit notes even though transferring from ESA Support Group.
I have not applied yet as I need to apply for an extension but I will use your given advice.
Your help is really appreciated.
Thank you and best wishes.

Hi Via,
Your UC Migration letter will have the Citizens Advice Help to Claim phone number on it. So I advise you to phone them straight away and they will manage your new UC claim for you up until your first payment. They have a special agreement with UC to do this and they are the only organisation that has been given one
Help to Claim have special access to UC staff and have in the past been actually located in DWP offices. So they can resolve any issues quickly regarding Fit Notes etc.

Hi VIA,
It is possible to contact Citizens Advice Help to Claim service before you receive the migration notice as I have done.
Once they have all your details they will issue a reference number for you to quote when you call again once the dreaded migration notice arrives.
I have found doing this has helped my anxiety just a little. 0800 144 8444 is the number to call should you wish to do the same.
All the best,
Gaddy
