I am having a telephone pip assessment on the 24th of this month. I received a text message today which warned 7 days in advance of my assessment but should I have received a letter through the post from capita? Also it says ask for the assessment to be recorded at the start on the day. Is this correct or should I contact capita well before the assessment? My anxiety has shot up and I struggle to sleep since the text message came. I also have no one to be with me which will make it more worrying.

Andy, I rang & asked them as soon as I knew when the assessment was, & reminded them again just before the assessment began. There’s no excuses then. Good luck!

It tells you in the guide about how much time /warning you should be given see page 107. The next arguement is, what is the difference between text and post?
Yes I would contact Capita before your assessment and ask for it to be recorded. I would not rely on the day that everything will go ok, We suggest that people also make covert recordings for their own record and that can be done in any method available to you.
If you have a look at our PIP guide at the link below you will see that there are a number of pages which include advice on telephone assessments. Yes, a lot of the questions are those that would have been asked if you had a face to face assessment.

- Don't take extra medication to get through the ordeal
- Write yourself a bullet point list of any particular points you want to get over, so you have it by you during the assessment, tick them as you cover them during the assessment.
- have paper and pens to hand to make any notes such as the assessors name, date, time
- Record the assessment surreptitiously. (Never trust that there won't be a problem with their equipment!)
- make sure you are seated in a comfortable chair, you are going to be there a while and at table to make notes
- if you can't hear or understand what is being asked then ask them to repeat the question
- don’t let the assessor rush you and get you flustered.
- don't forget to have a glass of water if needed so you don't get a dry throat and lose your voice!
Don't forget to contact DWP 48 hours after the assessment and ask for a copy of the assessors report called PA4.
