PIP and ESA when moving to another county was created by northernlass
I'm in my early sixties and currently receiving highest rate PIP (support group with 10 year award) and ESA (contributions based) for a difficult spinal injury. I have been in receipt of high rate disability benefits for this injury since the mid 1990s.
Due to my increasing care needs, it is becoming likely that myself and my husband will have to move from our home in the north to live with our son in a multigenerational home in the south of England for additional support. My question is, will I be re-assessed for PIP and reviewed for ESA on immediately on arrival in the new area? It is distressing enough to have to leave our home without the thought of undergoing yet another stressful review of my awards in an new area, let alone with a new GP and hospital specialists who do not know me. I would be most grateful for any advice that you could offer that may help make the transition less daunting and more do-able. Thankyou.

Unless you need to make a claim for Housing Benefit then your current benefits will remain in payment without change you just need to inform the DWP of the change of address.

If you do need to claim HB then you will need to do so via a claim for Universal Credit this will also result in the closure of any Income Related ESA that you are receiving. Any Contribution Based ESA will remain in payment but will be deducted from any UC payable.

Hi Gordon,
I'm so grateful for your reply, you've no idea how worried I was about this. It's a sad day indeed when individuals are afraid of the actions of their own government in circumstances that is no fault of their own.
Many thanks.
