Hi
I’ve been given a medication to try for pots symptoms by cardilogist but not been given a follow up apt to discuss this further . He basically did testing which confirmed my diagnosis , wrote a letter that I was positive for pots and told my GP to prescribe . I’ve tried expressing my concerns about side effect and what I would experience if it lowers my normal resting heart rate but no one has any answers for me . Cardiology discharged me straight away !
Currently I’m exploring other recommendations from the pots Uk website and the nhs covid assessment clinic have advised me to look into a private consult with a pots specialist.
Would this be seen as negative that I’m not willing to try it . I have Mcas and long covid and I’m incredibly sensitive now to medications hence my reluctance .

Hi Patty

There are lots of reasons why someone might not choose to take medication. And it doesn't sound as if you are unwilling to try it - it sounds like you want to explore your options. And because of your sensitivity, you need questions answered about the side effects and risks to your long-term health. Will that be looked upon in a negative light? I can't say it won't be because assessors are notoriously funny about medication - and are always looking to see that people are taking large dosages to prove they are ill! But you are not alone in not taking something and it doesn't take away the impact of your illness on your daily living and or mobility. So mention it, just as you have done here and say you are still exploring your options. Focus on the impact of Pots on the specific PIP criteria and make sure it is clear how debilitating it is.

Hi Patty

You always want to use reputable sites for you information:

The NHS - www.nhs.uk/conditions/postural-tachycardia-syndrome/
The British Heart Foundation www.bhf.org.uk/informationsupport/heart-...ask-the-experts/pots

If you've recently been diagnosed you might want to look at POTs UK, which is a charity and has lots of information on how to manage the condition: www.potsuk.org/managingpots/

We don't keep information on individual illnesses in Benefits and Work
