PIP MEDICAL ABANDONED PART WAY THROUGH was created by alouise
Hi
I went for my pip medical yesterday. My partner was with me. The accessor abandoned the assessment part way through, stating that she couldnt carry on as i couldnt answer the questions.
I have complex ptsd, depression, anxiety, panic attacks, dissociation and self harm.
Lots of medical evidence from my psychiatrists and psychologists was submitted with the claim form. I was still told i needed a assessment.
Result was that i dissociated. Which they were pre warned by my partner and my psychiatrist and psychologist would happen.
They didnt have a clue what to do, as dwp had requested that i had to answer certain questions, which obviously i couldnt. Resulting in the assessor abandoning the assessment. They rang somewhere to report it, but nothing was said about what was going to happen instead.
i am now panicking that they are going to ignore my claim.
Has anyone else had anything like this happen to them?

If they try to refuse your claim for not complying with the face to face you will have the right to appeal which you should do straight away.
Would a home assessment be better?
You could also ask for it to be recorded so the assessor can't make up what happened.

I just want to say I agree with Foss entirely. Surely if they were aware due to your conditions that this was likely to occur there was little value in doing a face to face. Was the assessor a physiotherapist? Or a medical professional familiar with type of problems that you face? I am so sorry you had to go through this and the understandable stress you are going through.
What I don't understand is in the guidelines available to members is that if they were informed that this would happen. Why they felt a face to face was appropriate? They are not supposed to knowingly cause distress.
I wish you the very best and am so sorry you are having to endure this unbelievable stress.

Thanks for replies
it was put on the pip form that a home assessment would be better than at a centre. My psychiatrist and psychologist stated the same in the numerous reports i have had from them, which was included.
The assessor didnt say what her expertise was (according to my partner). She only read my pip form, none of my medical evidence, which she informed both my partner and her boss at the assessment centre. Reason was that she wasnt allowed to read any of my mental health records. why??????
My partner has spoken to dwp today, who said that they may just look at the claim using paperwork as i was not compliant in the assessment. He informed them that they can try a home assessment if they want, although i may still dissociate if they ask triggering questions. My psychologist today hit the roof about it.
Its making me wonder whether they actually take any notice of medical evidence, or whether the assessors have any medical knowledge when they are doing the medicals.

Unfortunately there is no requirement for an assessor to have any specialist knowledge at all.
I think this is a basic failing of the entire process. Specialists would be able to make considered judgements on all the evidence and submissions made by claimants but probably wouldn't put up with the political and ideological interference from government that just want to get the welfare bill down. Overpaid amateurs are much more pliable. The sick and disabled pay the price.
