Recorded suicide attempts and police involved to prevent self harm. I am worried he will break down at PIP medical, with ATOS who are not medically trained to support this condition, and he could become suicidal again. Are there any exemption rules under this circumstance...Many Thanks
Hi jh,
There are no automatic exemptions as such, however ATOS are supposed to make reasonable adjustments for claimants with respect to their limitations and disabilities.
If you feel that having to attend a face to face would be deleterious to your friend's condition, you should contact ATOS and inform them of this.
ATOS Website
They may insist that your friend obtains a letter from their G.P. or another treating HCP such as a CPN. supporting the fact that having to attend may put them at serious risk.
If you are going to contact them I would do so ASAP !
I would also strongly advise your friend to contact their G.P. or other treating HCP ASAP !!

Hi jh,
It may well be worthwhile contacting ATOS, as they may be unaware of your friend's mental health issues.
Even though an ATOS medic is supposed to review the PIP 2 Form, etc to see whether a face to face is necessary and suitable, as the face to face appointments department is standalone, sometimes the appointments are made without them first viewing The PIP 2 Form.
