That's correct, IR ESA has replaced IS for "sickness benefits" ! :
Asset rule for receipt of IR ESA 24 hour work rule for ESA(IR) So where as in the past a claimant may have been paid Incapacity Benefit with IS top-ups, they would now be paid CB ESA with IR ESA top-ups.
With ESA, in either group, one can be paid CB ESA alone, IR ESA alone, or CB ESA with IR ESA top-ups.
It depends on your entitlement and personal/financial circumstances.
When entitled, payment of CB ESA will always take precedence over payment of IR ESA !
