The first thing you need to check is whether the date of the sanction and your being returned to ESA overlap? If they do then the sanction should be removed because you were not on JSA at the time it was issued.
If they do not, then it's up to you whether you need to pursue it or not, sanctions remain in place until the requirement that caused it is fulfilled, this could mean that if at some time in the future you have to claim JSA the sanction could still be in place.
