Hi,

requested mandatory reconsideration of PIP decision by phone and said would send in further information within 4 weeks..

I'm now confused... I asked date when further info etc to be submitted by and advisor said within1 month of decision letter.

I thought requesting reconsideration then gave bit of time to get further evidence, mine won't be through in time I think.

Plus wasn't asked for reasons on phone. Do I
- send in detailed reasons before 1 month deadline,
-wait for further info to send detailed reasons,
- or just do written reconsideration request, basic reasons and statement of more to be sent in?
Basically I have requested reconsideration without adding to my case at this point.

I am worried I have got confused with this and don't know how I can manage to get things done, even with help.

thanks,
mrs QWERTY

Qwerty

First of all we strongly recommend requesting an MR in writing, we are still seeing those requested over the phone being lost in the system.

You should be given four weeks from the date you request the MR to provide additional information, however, we are seeing some Decision Makers not waiting the full four weeks to make a new Decision, so better sooner is better than later.

You can make an initial request stating you will send further information or send the whole lot as one, but you must make the MR request itself within one month of the Decision or you will have to explain why the request is late and the DWP can refuse to accept your reasons, although we haven't seen this happen on the forum. Obviously the latter will restrict the time available.

If you have not already done so, requests a copy of the assessment report from the DWP, this can be done over the phone but I would follow up the request in writing.

I hope this explains it, but if not reply to this post and we'll try and help further.

Hi Gordon,

pip adviser said request noted on system but seemed unaware of time to send in further info, then said send it in as soon as possible.

think whatever I do I need to send in written MR request.
my family has suggested withdrawing request, rather than making mess of it, but unsure if that's an option.

thanks,
mrs QWERTY

Hi Q,

As Gordon has advised, if you wish to continue with your request for a Mandatory Reconsideration (MR) of the adverse decision, you need to submit a written request (to back up the verbal request) within a month of the date of the PIP Decision Notice letter.

See : Mandatory Reconsiderations Explained

PIP MR/Appeals Guidance.

Disability Rights UK Factsheet - Appeals and Mandatory Reconsiderations.

&

Sending Documents to the DWP.

Hi Mrs Qwerty,
Just to let you know what happened to me in the last three weeks. I was awarded standard rte for daily living but not for mobility. so I rang as advised in letter to ask for man Recon. Guy said I would get a call back in 8-9 weeks to discuss. Three days later (!) I got a letter saying they had reviewed my Man REcon Request with further info being submitted and award not being changed. I rang again confused and call centre asked for urgent call back.
Called me back different person in Bristol, said I'd been given the wrong info re 8-9 weeks, and as a result she would give me another 4 weeks to send in evidence. We discussed points at length, most of which she was dismissive of, I explained what my report said was not reflective of the medical assessment but she said they have to go by what was reported. Atm I'm seeing my gp on 12/10 to see if she can support me further but its unlikely as She's my new GP after my previous practice was closed down!
I would ring them back as it seems you've been given incorrect info.
Good luck
Jo
