Annie Mac wrote: I have received my letter asking if I wish to apply for PIP. I am now terrified. I have muscular dystrophy and never had to have a medical assessment for my DLA. However, I've been told that I will definitely have to have an assessment and I'm scared as the only other person I know on PIP is a very mentally strong woman and they had her in tears. Also, is it true the assessment waiting time is now up to 16 weeks? Any advice on how to go about assessment and form filling would be gratefully received. Also should I use my wheelchair when I go or struggle to walk to show how severe my walking is? Thank you
Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain where everything is
Welcome to Benefits and Work
There is no legal requirement for a face to face assessment to be carried out, whilst recommendations without one are infrequent they do happen, also, even if you do require one, it may be possible to arrange for it to be done at your home.
Have a look at our PIP Claim guide that explains how to complete the form based on your conditions and how the effect you.
