Hi m,

Welcome to Benefits and Work :)

As you will probably know by now, you ESA face to face assessment will be carried out by : The Centre for Health and Disability Assessments (CHDA) (Maximus) who took over the ESA WCA Contract from ATOS on 02/03/15.

Do not think of it as a "medical" as in the true sense of the word, it is not !

It is more a Q & A session where the LiMA software programme generates set questions that the assessor will then ask you.

Your responses will then be entered into the Computer, and the software programme will make pre-designated assumptions dependent on your response.

You can have some one else you know present for support and they can take notes.

I don't know whether you have requested that the face to face is to be audio recorded, but the option is available, and you would have to contact CHDA to arrange this, which may result in your appointment having to re-arranged.

You are allowed to re-arrange once, but failure to take part in a second face to face without good cause can lead to you being found fit for work and your ESA payments ceasing.

You should also have a look at this FAQ in anticipation of the face to face :

ESA "Medical" – What to expect

You should be aware that how you manage the return trip to/from the Assessment Centre will be taken into account as part of the actual assessment.

You may be observed on approaching, leaving and whilst inside the centre.

Assumptions may be made by the assessor with regards to the above.

These assumptions could result in the assessor writing comments/recommendations within the ESA85 medical report which they compile and send to The DWP ESA DM who makes the final decision.

There is also information on what to expect at your face to face towards the end of our : ESA Claims Guides 3rd and 4th links down the page.

Good luck and please keep us updated by replying to this topic !
