I know you shouldn't count your chickens and all that, but a relative recently died and I understand from my brother that the 2 of us could be coming into some money from a property sale (yes lucky me I know).
Would it be complete madness to think of voluntarily 'giving up' my award of ESA (especially if I don't receive any money in a bequest!)? But if this bequest of money comes to anything, to be honest I would rather the money that I currently get go to someone more in need than I would be.
I'd love to hear of others views

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

If you remained entitled to ESA payments then personally I would say that providing it does not exceed your cr@p factor then you should keep it.
cr@p factor = benefit / hassle (and is unique for each individual)
Whilst it is very noble (no sarcasm intended), giving up your payments will not mean that someone "more deserving" will then be paid, it doesn't work that way, if you are entitled you get paid, if you aren't then you don't.

Don't give up your award as whilst you are claiming you are paying NI credits towards your state pension. Depending on which group you are in CB support group I think you can have savings although it is always best to inform the DWP of any changes in circumstance
