ESA no assessment, now PIP was created by SadCat
Sorry in advance if these are easily searchable queries:
1. I had an upcoming ESA assessment and have been in the support group. I got a letter today saying that the assessment is cancelled due to incoming evidence. It did not say if my benefits would change. I have been getting worse lately, and GP has asked for urgent referrals etc so would I be right in thinking it is reasonable to assume I will continue to be in the support group? I did query the ESA process ages ago here and the consensus was I should either be examined at home/strong case for no assessment. Basically I can't leave the house without self harm with a scalpel (I trained as a vet) and on anti-epilepsy drugs offlicence for depression. I also have ASD and socialise 1-2 Times per year, other than the Dr I have no face to face human contact whatsoever. Therefore a strange possibly judgemental human contact is very stressful.
2. I have been terrified and I think too proud to apply for PIP. It may seem unlikely, but I used to have a great career. I know I have to, but am frightened at not being believed or being dismissed. Or if not thought sick enough being too sick - I fear attempts to section me - for an unfamiliar journey outside the home I may end up cutting myself badly enough for stitches or on my face Also phone calls even to apply are almost impossible for me. I think I read here that your ESA application can influence PIP - would not having been required for a ESA assessment stand me in good stead?
Many thanks for the help, advice and support.

It does sound like Maximus are going to make a recommendation without seeing you. I would hope, given the description of your problems, that you will remain in the Support Group but all I can confirm with certainty is that you cannot be found Fit for Work, I am afraid you will need to wait for the DWP to write to you with their Decision, hopefully it should not take more than a couple of weeks.
PIP has quite different criteria than ESA although there are some areas of overlap, the DWP and Assessment Providers do use information from ESA claims to make recommendations but I cannot guarantee that because you did not have an assessment for ESA that this will also apply to PIP, as always it will be dependant on the level of detail you include in the PIP claim form and the evidence that you attach to it.

That is pretty much what I thought. Many thanks for the very prompt reply Gordon. I am a member here so do have the benefits of the documents here when filling in the PIP form, which I didn't With the ESA form. I suppose lots of things with PIP can be subjective e.g. 'significant harm' ('re leaving house/journeys) could be cuts to one person but another may see 'significant' as being nerve damage or hitting an artery. We shall see I suppose.
