My husband had his assessment on 26th June and we are still waiting. I have chased capita but all they say its still with the assessors. If we get PIP does anyone know if it will be backdated?

Hi AM,

If it is a fresh PIP claim any PIP award will be backdated to the time of your initial claim.

If it is a transfer over from DLA any PIP awards would be active from 4 weeks after the date of the PIP decision.

My husband does get the lower care component of DLA but he has recently lost his job due to his mental health. I rang DWP to inform them of change of circumstances and they said we would have to claim PIP. So not sure if it will be backdated or not as he is still getting the DLA at the moment.

Does anyone know if it will be backdated?

Hi AM,

I am afraid with DLA to PIP transfers, there is no backdating !

His current DLA award will remain in payment until 4 weeks after the date of the new PIP decision, whatever that PIP decision may be.

This is how the PIP Regulations work, and it has caused much disgruntlement, especially where there is a change of circumstances for someone currently on a lower DLA award who then receives an Enhanced PIP Award due to becoming terminally ill.

I had my assessment at home on the 4th July with CAPITA and received my decision letter yesterday if that helps at all?

I have gone from 9 years of high rate care and low rate mobility DLA to being awarded absolutely nothing by PIP!

I fully understand how agonising and mentally torturous the wait can be and I truly hope that you receive a much more positive response than I have.

All the very best x
