PIP MR - worried about phone call was created by Melanie Tudor
After losing mobility on PIP decision February this year, I sent a 5 page detailed letter MR which DWP received in March. Having not heard anything, my support worker phoned the DWP a month ago, and was told that MR was received and they would phone me in the next few days. I don't answer the phone (my husband does when he is home) and I listened to messages but no message. I phoned the DWP today myself, and they said that the DWP had tried to contact me without success and had left a message with a telephone number I should ring. The lady on the phone said she would send a request for them to phone me again to discuss my claim. I asked why they needed to speak to me on the phone because everything was in the detailed letter and I said my support worker helped me write it, and all the information is in the letter. I said that I didn't feel I could add anything on the phone and was worried that they person would try and trick me. I say this because when the decision maker phoned me immediately after my initial claim decision to see if I was happy with it, it seemed that no matter how I tried to explain exactly why I should have been awarded mobility, the decision maker just tried to evade me. She even said at one point 'well that is a tricky one'. I am absolutely dreading a phone call. Why can't they just look at the letter. I know they will try and persuade me not to pursue the MR or will try and trick me.

Hi m c,

They cannot force you to discuss your MR over the phone if you do not wish to.

As you say, there is nothing to stop them carrying out the MR on the paper evidence that you have provided.

If you do decide to take the phone call, you could covertly record it for your future reference.
