Bipolar mood disorder? was created by hippyhappy
Hi, I have been looking round the site and there is fantastic advice re filling in PIP and ESA forms. However, I don't see anything that is more specific to bipolar? I have kind of looked at the guidance on anxiety/depression and schizophrenia (as I have psychotic elements)
Anyone have any advice for me or are able to point me in the direction of anywhere I can read?

I am not having to fill in the forms at present but I know they will be on their way soon....so trying to read up a bit before I feel under pressure as I am afriad the pressure will actually make me ill :-(

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

Neither PIP nor ESA directly look at the conditions that a claimant has, rather they look at the effects that those conditions have on you your day to day activities.

So rather thinking about your problems from the point of view of your conditions turn it around and look at the Descriptors for ESA and PIP to see if you can explain why you have difficulties with them.

A system for describing your limitations

If you’re struggling to know how to give detailed evidence for an activity, try writing the
answers to these 5 questions:

1. What condition or medication causes you problems with an activity?
2. What effect do these have on you ability to do the activity?
3. Some examples of how you are effected.
4. What things might enable you overcome these problems
5 How much of the time are you affected in this way.

So an example answer might look like

1. Due to my Bipolar
2. I have low appetite and struggle to remember to eat regularly
3. I regularly get to the end of the day only to find that I have not eaten anything
4. prompting by someone else at suitable times means that I eat regularly
5. I am always affected in this manner.

This formula is used in all of the example answers in the guides, have a go at applying it to your issues in regard the Descriptors for each benefit.
