Hi all , just joined and hoping i will be able to have some of my concerns answered from others that may of experienced the same ( fingers crossed) .My DLA ends October and i have been invited to a PIP assessment via CAPITA 12 Aug in Coventry which is 24.5 miles away. I rang them up and advised this was to far away and asked for a home assessment , needless to say i felt as if i was talking to myself and was asked why i wanted a home assessment i informed i have mobility difficulties - i was then given to other dates to attend nearer assessments centres - to which i haven't accepted yet nor cancelled my original date . The adviser was absolutely useless and suggested i ring 3 days before my app i then suggested i ring this coming monday as wouldn't want to risk not getting an alternative . The adviser then advised they were struggling with availability dates within my area - i advised this wasn't my problem .

A home assessment will only be granted if your GP has provided a letter explaining why you cannot attend at an Assessment centre, even then it is still at the Discretion of the Assessment Provider.
As you have already cancelled one assessment you must attend the next one or you risk having your claim closed for failing to participate.

HI , i was sent an PIP app last fri for 12th Aug the centre was 25 miles away from home , managed to change this yesterday and now have one closer ...didnt expect it so soon though ! Have to admit I'm extemely anxious about the assessment -have read good and bad feedback on outcomes . Ive been in receipt of DLA since 2003 i have degenerative facet joints and Neuropathy damage to left leg/foot.- my claim ends October so hence the move over to PIP assessment .Ive also just had a fitting for a partial calf /foot splint 4weeks until its done - but i do have a temporary splint should i wear this tomorrow ? wish me look guys ...

Hi s,
Please do not start separate topics for the same query/subject !
I have merged them.
If you would normally use the splint then I would advise that you do so for the Assessment.
What they told you about only giving Home Assessments for people that are bed bound is utter rubbish.
Home Assessments should be granted to anyone that has mobility issues or mental health issues that preclude them from travelling to an Assessment Centre.
You should be aware that how you manage the return trip to/from the Assessment Centre will be taken into account as part of the actual assessment.
You may be observed on approaching, leaving and whilst inside the centre.
Assumptions may be made by the assessor with regards to the above.
These assumptions could result in the assessor writing comments/recommendations within the PIP medical report which they compile and send to The DWP.
You can read what to expect at a PIP face to face from Page 70 of our : PIP Claims Guide. (2nd Link on page)
Good luck, I hope it goes well for you !

Thanks Bro58
I thought the same about the home visit , a friend had her assessment at home but is mobile. Yh i will take into account that there will be some observation on me arriving/leaving and whilst in the centre. The foot splint i will wear its not the easiest of splints to walk with pretty uncomfortable -suppose i just need to get use to it .
Apologies about starting another thread - I'm new to this and just working my way around.
