Need to inform DLA and ESA if a baby is born? was created by neptune1980
Hello all
I receive Contribution Based ESA and DLA Middle Rate Care and Lower Rate Mobility.
My wife who I live with recently gave birth to Twins and I was wondering if this is something I need to inform ESA and DLA about?
The babies also live with myself and my wife.
Hope someone can help?

Both your ESA and DLA (and PIP) are in your name only and therefore take no account of your partner or your children.
If your ESA at some point includes an Income Related top-up or switches to IR then you will need to contact the DWP, your benefit should not be effected but you will need to ensure that the additional payments your family will receive in regard to the children are properly disregarded and not treated as income.

Thanks!
So theres no need for me to inform ESA and DLA that my wife had twins and they now live with us?
Just I was looking on here for ESA
Any changes to do with you or your partner
www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/upl...68268/esa40-1014.pdf
and it says this, among other things
start living with someone
start claiming another benefit
SO I didn't know whether to inform them that our twin babies now live with us. Also when we start getting child benefit I am not sure if we need to inform ESA and DLA of that?
But are those things about informing them only to do with income related ESA? As Contribution Based ESA is not means tested?

Both ESA(CB) and DLA or PIP are claims made in the name of the claimant only. DLA and PIP are not affected by any other payments that the claimant might receive, ESA(CB) is only affected by pension income.
ESA(IR) takes a wider view of income, but I believe disregards payments made in respect of children.
If you are still in doubt, inform the DWP, it should not cause any problems.
