pip appointment over 90 mins query was created by norman21
Hi

i have had a pip appointment come through that is at min of 1.45 hours to 2 hours by public transport -

i am going to email them as i know this not allowed ( cant face actually talking with them)

thanks for your advice before i have looked up on the dwp rules to quote etc

my question is though if i get a nearer venue - i know there at least 4 nearer to me - does me changing this one count of my only chance of changing as i know you are allowed only 1 ? even though they are breaking the rules

its just my husband will have to take me - i do not drive and i have a lot of very important hospital tests coming up and concerned if they overlap - i will have to cancel the hospital and then have a long wait to get the medical treatment i need

thanks in advance for any advice - this is so stressful - making me feel ill already

Unfortunately there is no definitive answer to this.

The Assessment Provider will have calculated the time it should take you to attend based on the local public transport facilities, they might send you for an interview that takes 90 minutes to reach, but I doubt they would do so if it reported as more.

I know that Google will allow you to calculate a journey from one address to another on at a particular time of the day, other search engines may do this also, I would do this for your journey.

If it is clear that the travel time is more than 90 minutes then I would include this in your email and ask that the appointment be moved to a closer venue at no fault to you.

If Google (or other) shows that he route is less than 90 minutes, then I think it likely that the new appointment will count against you.

Thank you Gordon

if it helps others - this was roughly my email to atos

i told them i had calculated using the journey planner website showing a minimum of 1.45 to 2 hours each way that that this involved buses, trains, underground and walking
i told them i was completely stressed out about doing this as it was so complicated and i was scared about getting so fatigued
i listed the 4 other centres nearer to me and then i quoted the dwp guidelines back to them about how you should not be asked to make more than a 90 min journey each way so i assumed they had made a mistake?
i repeated how stressed this was making me at the end of the email and within 30 mins i got a reply offering me one of the 4 centres listed instead
the date is luckily ok for me - i am still freaked out about having to go through the assessment as have been there before with esa so know what it will be like, - but i am pleased for now and shocked at how quickly they responded !!!
thank you
