Types of evidence needed for ESA & PIP? was created by Mystique
Hi everyone
I've been advised that I will be made redundant at the end of July. My physical and mental conditions have deteriorated to the point that I can no longer work anyway, and I'm on long term SSP. I've applied for ESA and PIP in anticipation of my contract ending, and I'm wondering what sort of evidence will be useful in supporting my claim.
Conditions include:
Severe Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
Chronic Pain
Depression w. self-harm and suicidal tendencies
Anxiety
Evidence I will be able to provide includes:
Doctor's letter
Confirmation of referral to immunologist
Supporting letter from spouse who cares for me part time
Confirmation of diagnoses made by doctors in South Africa when I was resident there (these were made before I emigrated here)
Copies of doctors letters and sick notes supplied to work
Contract confirming reasonable adaptations made to assist with my condition
Absence calendar showing frequent absences despite this
Assorted documentation showing cancellation of wedding in 2012 due to chronic fatigue (one of my current conditions)
Documentation confirming 3 collapses at work the necessitated an ambulance being called as result of my conditions
Is there anything from this list that would be recommended/not recommended to send? Is there anything else that might be useful to try and source?
Thank you so much for reading this, I look forward to any help or advice you're able to give!
Best wishes

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain where everything is
Welcome to Benefits and Work
If you have a look at our ESA Claim guides you will get a better understanding of the criteria and the sort of evidence that you need to support your claim. See
www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/help-for-claimants/esa1
and for PIP
www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/help-for-claimants/pip
If you are still receiving Statutory Sick Pay (SSP), as opposed to sick pay, then you cannot make a claim for ESA, you will need to wait until just before the SSP expires and make a claim for the day after, you will also need an SSP1 certificate from your employer.
If you have more questions then please reply to the forum and we will do our best to help.
