ESA, NHS costs and amount government minimum money

having got my ESA award, waited weeks for correct letter, (have made a complaint about this and asked for compensation) we then applied for NHS help with costs,

my partner is a pensioner and 'entitled' to carers premium, so our total income is £285.93, now according to housing benefit our 'government allowance is £282.90, so working on this we get around £3 over the amount due, so using this as being less than half the prescription charge this would appear to say we should be allowed full help with NHS costs

but sadly when the certificate arrived this morning they are actually using a much smaller allowance figure of just£265.45

can anyone tell me if this is correct, they are using a income allowance for over 60, while housing benefit are using a figure for couple pension age

which actual figure is the correct figure that the government states we are allowed to have and get full benefits

any help would be great as i am confused even our government can not have 2 maximum amounts before full benefits surely?

I'm sorry but we cannot give detailed financial advice on the forum, to calculate what you should be receiving we would have to have an understanding of all of your benefits and income, which is simply not practical on the forum.

There are two ways forward for you, you can try one of the online benefit calculators, see

www.gov.uk/benefits-calculators

alternatively you can try and get face to face advise from a trained advisor who can go through all of your documentation with you, do an internet search for "welfare advice" with your postcode, town or county.

A couple of things for you, if your partner is receiving the State Pension then you should be entitled to Pension Credit subject to your circumstances, this would enable access to free prescriptions and dental care and would remove the need for you to claim ESA.

Secondly if the issue is free prescriptions then an alternative is a Prescription Pre-Payment certificate. see

www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/1127.aspx
