PIP medical assessment was created by carerforhubs
Today my other half had his PIP medical.

The HP introduced themself as a Disability Analyst - what on earth is one of those??

We had taken a copy of everything that we had sent with the claim form.

All was going well in the assessment. It seemed as though the HP had read through all the evidence we had sent. (hmmm...)

We had to correct them on a point that they had typed on the PC in regards to the distance my husband can walk, to which they apologised and corrected it. (Luckily I could see what was being typed, otherwise this was likely to end badly come the receiving of the brown envelope)

However at the end when they asked was there anything else we needed to say to add into the report, we pointed out, again that we had brought a copy of ALL the documentation we had sent in with the claim. This included 17 pages of additional information in relation to each PIP question so as to get his condition and its effects across to whoever had to read it/make a decision, as well as copies of letters from GP/consultants etc from when my other halfs condition began.

The HP said 'No' they had not seen the additional information, to which we were very surprised.
Had they seen it, it would have been much more likely that we would not have had to sit and go through it all for an hour and a half, when they could have just read it!

We asked if they had seen the wad of medical letters etc which I was holding and NO, they had only seen 6 pieces of evidence. The HP told us what evidence they had seen, some of which was not as relevant as others we had.

We gave the additional information sheets to the HP, but they said they would not take the medical evidence as it would not fit in the envelope. I managed, so why couldn't they - hence why the DWP will be receiving a copy from us.

How are you supposed to have a fair assessment from a HP's point of view when they have not seen all the information from the claim??

I will be sending ALL of it again to the DWP tomorrow so they have a copy too!

I saw a post from Mrs Hurtyback which said 'assume the DWP have no prior knowledge of your condition'.

This statement also helped to confirm that we should send it all to them too!

All of the assessors are trained in Disability Analysis and are described as Disability Analysts.

The assessor is required to have read all of the documents in the claimants file before the assessment begins. From the PIP Assessment guide

Before starting the consultation
2.6.6. Before starting the consultation, the HP should read the claimant questionnaire and all other evidence on file.

They are also required to accept any evidence that the claimant brings on the day of the assessment.
