IB to ESA transfer was created by Lynn Shirra
Can you please advise me how long I should expect to wait until I hear from DWP whether of not I am being transferred from IB to ESA, or if I will be advised to claim Jobseeker's Allowance, to which I am not entitled, as I have a workplace pension. I already have my IB reduced by £53 per week as my workplace pension is in excess of the £85 per week limit.
I was forced to retire early from the NHS in July 2003, due to severe mental health issues. I had over 30 years service. I applied for, and got Incapacity Benefit shortly after this. I have had 2 medical assessments since 2003. The last one in 2006 awarded me lifetime entitlement, as my condition is unlikely to improve. I received a letter from DWP in May 2014, advising me that I was being transferred from IB to ESA, and asking me to complete the enclosed ESA50 form. I did this, and I checked to see that the form had been received on time by DWP (they received it on 16th May 2014). To date, I have heard nothing more. I continue to receive IB, albeit at a reduced rate due to my NHS pension.
It is usual for a claimant for ESA to wait this long before being invited for a medical assessment, or being put into the support group without a medical? Since I completed the ESA50, I have had a significant deterioration my psychical health, in that I can now hardly walk due to severe osteoarthritis. This was not mentioned on my ESA50, as I did not have a diagnosis or significant difficulties with mobility at that time. Can you please advise me on where I go from here?

There are still considerable delays in the ESA assessment system and we are still hearing from members who have waited 12 months or more from completing their ESA50 to being asked to attend an assessment.

If your conditions have deteriorated since you completed the ESA50 then you should give some thought to documenting these changes for when Maximus (the current Assessment Provider) get around to looking at your claim.

This can be in the form of a letter or a new ESA50, if the former then try and stick to the same format as the ESA50.

When notified of an assessment, send the updated information to the same address as the appointment, send a copy to the DWP office that is dealing with your claim and finally take a copy to the assessment and ask the assessor to read it and include it your file before proceeding with the interview.
